This is the tool that has been missing for years. Previously, control strategy and HMI development/testing required
that actual hardware be attached to the PC. This was frequently impractical and never convenient. Now, however, the
newly released Opto22 PAC software simulation utility allows control strategies and HMI operator displays to run
without hardware attached. This is ideal for developing strategies prior to hardware assembly, debugging
applications, and exploring code techniques.
The virtual control engine is configured identically to a real controller except that a loopback IP address (127.0.0.1) is
used instead of a real address. I/O units and points can be added as usual with the their communications option
disabled. The program will write to the IVAL's and inputs can be entered into the IVAL's.
While there are some limitations, Opto22 has indicated that they will continue to develop this utility over time.
