Opto22 Product Families
Opto22 has produced several product families over the years to take advantage of changing technologies. Unlike
many companies, Opto22 provides extensive support and, in many cases, backward compatibility for legacy
equipment thus making legacy upgrades very affordable. Each family has different characteristics and strengths, as
described below.

described below.
PAC/SNAP
PAC systems are Opto22's current state of the art products. Features include dual ethernet ports, legacy support,
hi-density modules, specialty modules, database connectivity (OptoDataLink), and software simulation. In addition to
ethernet IP/TCP for communication over wired or wireless Ethernet networks, additional supported communication
methodologies include serial, cellular, modem (PPP), OPC, and Modbus/TCP.
Hardware. A complete PAC/SNAP Ethernet systems consist of the following components:
Controller - runs the control logic (program) and provides communications to the operator
Brain - regulates the I/O Modules and provides the communication interface to the modules
Rack - provides the attachment points for the Brain and I/O Modules
I/O Modules - provide digital, analog, serial, and special purpose input/output connection points to the field devices
Power Supply - provides DC power for the SNAP components
Software. PAC system hardware is controlled with the PAC Project software suite which includes PAC Control for
flowchart based programming and PAC Display for generating operator interfaces (HMI). Touch screen terminals are also
available as operator interfaces. OptoDataLink provides MS Access connectivity.
